Fair Week in the Chippewa Valley: Enjoy It Safely
It is fair week in the Chippewa Valley. The Northern Wisconsin State Fair opens Wednesday and runs through Sunday, July 8 to 12, right here in Chippewa Falls. Rides, fair food, livestock shows, 4-H exhibits, and live music. It is one of the best weeks of the summer to be a neighbor around here.
As a full-time firefighter and paramedic, I love this week, and I also know it lands in the hottest stretch of the year. A little planning keeps the day fun for everyone, especially the youngest and the oldest members of your group.
Enjoy the fair, the easy-on-everyone way
- Drink water before you think you need it. The lemonade is great, but water is what keeps the day going. Carry a bottle and refill it.
- Plan for the sun. Hats, sunscreen, and a shady break every so often. The livestock barns and indoor exhibits are a good place to cool down.
- Pick a meetup spot. Big crowds and little ones are a tricky mix. Choose an easy landmark so nobody has a scary moment if you get separated.
- Keep an eye on the older adults in your group. Heat, walking, and standing in line add up faster than we notice. Offer a seat, a water, and a shaded rest before anyone needs it.
- Watch the footing. Fairgrounds mean cords, curbs, and gravel. A steady arm for someone who is unsure on their feet goes a long way.
Come out, support the 4-H kids, and enjoy this community we are lucky to call home. The same steady attention that makes for a good day at the fair, looking out for one another and noticing what someone needs before they have to ask, is exactly the spirit we bring to the homes and families we serve the rest of the year.
If fair week has you thinking about a parent's home, our $150 Home Safety & Readiness Audit is a great next step.
